New shoes and socks will be collected at participating Middle Tennessee Blue Coast Burrito stores July 1 to July 27 to help vulnerable children around the world.
missing or outdated ad configNASHVILLE (June 27, 2019) – A new partner is joining radio station WAY-FM for its annual shoe drive with nonprofit program Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls. From July 1 to July 27, participating Middle Tennessee Blue Coast Burritostores will host drop-off locations for new shoes and socks to benefit vulnerable children around the world.
During the drive, Buckner requires all donated shoes and socks for children and teens be brand new due to customs regulations when shipping to children in other countries. The greatest need is for new athletic shoes, sizes Youth 4 to Adult 9. Cash donations are also accepted and will help provide new shoes as well as cover distribution costs.
WAY-FM Regional Manager Tim Dukes said, “Partnering with Blue Coast Burrito this year will allow us to serve even more children in the U.S. and across the world. We are more than a radio station – we’re a ministry dedicated to helping our listeners make a difference in the footsteps of Jesus, and we thank Buckner and Blue Coast Burrito for helping us do that this July.”
Participating Middle Tennessee Blue Coast Burrito locations include Nashville restaurants in Lenox Village and the Nashville West Shopping Center, as well as Franklin, Hendersonville, Murfreesboro, Mt. Juliet and Smyrna. For a complete list, visit Buckner.org/Shoes/Shoe-Drives/WAY-FM.
In addition, WAY-FM and Blue Coast Burrito will host Beach Bashes at select locations during July, which will include music, giveaways and fun competitions for all shoe donors to enjoy. Beach Bashes are scheduled for July 13 (Hendersonville), July 20 (Murfreesboro Fortress) and July 27 (Franklin/Cool Springs).
“We are excited anytime we can combine some summer fun for our customers with a worthy cause to help children in need. Thank you to WAY-FM for including Blue Coast Burrito in its annual shoe drive. Together we are going to show why Nashville is one of the most philanthropic cities in the country,” said Kristi Knierim, Blue Coast Burrito’s director of local store marketing.
The shoes collected during the drive will provide hope for children living in orphanages and impoverished communities where Buckner International, the nonprofit operating Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls, offers a variety of holistic services. Through foster care, empowerment programs, transitional care and humanitarian aid, Buckner International supports children and families in countries such as the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Kenya, Mexico and Peru.
“A new pair of shoes can change the life of a child in an orphanage or impoverished community, and we think each and every child deserves that hope of a bright future,” said Shawn Spurrier, assistant director of Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls. “We are thankful for the continued support of WAY-FM in Nashville, and we welcome Blue Coast Burrito. The shoes they collect will help kids attend school, protect them against disease and injury, and give them hope.”
On July 28, all the shoes and socks will be collected and delivered to the Buckner Center for Humanitarian Aid in Dallas, where they will be sorted and shipped internationally.
