10 Cool Things To Do In Nashville This Weekend:

-

That weekend mentality is starting to take over, folks.

Ahh, the weekend. A time when you answer to no one but the kind gentleman behind the counter of your favorite barbecue joint when he asks if you want extra cheese (and of course, you always do). You’re your own master: you can hit up a party, lay low with friends at a happy hour, take your kid (or your dog, which we think counts as a kid) to the park…the options are endless. Want to find the right one for you? We got it! Here are 10 things happening in Nashville this weekend.

Michelle Chamuel

An Edgy “The Voice” Alum With A Solid Debut Album

cham

WHAT IT IS:

The Voice may churn out a lot of bubblegum-pop hopefuls, but season 4’s Michelle Chamuel is the real deal (her version of “I Knew You Were Trouble” got Swift’s AND Rolling Stone’s approval). Her new album/single “Face The Fire” is a strong debut with a danceable hook that still maintains her individuality. Come see Chamuel in person where the indie pop party is always ragin’, The High Watt!

GOOD FOR:

A night out with your crew when you need to blow off some steam and can’t wait till’ Friday. You WILL be dancing to this.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

Take the group to grab an all-American dinner at M.L. Rose. If you’re still feeling a Thursday night party post-show, head to Melrose Billiards for some pool and stiff drinks.

The Light And Sound Machine: Stations Of The Elevated

Watch A Film About NYC Graffiti At Jack White’s Place

3r

WHAT IT IS:

We all know Jack White is the king of cool, and his record store is screening an equally cool film. A 1981 documentary about the graffiti movement in NY that was rereleased in 2014, Stations Of The Elevated is sure to liven up your Thursday with some inspiration.

GOOD FOR:

A music/culture junkie that needs a break from live shows. Switch it up!

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

Stop by Hatch Show Print in the nearby Omni Hotel to score some artwork of your own – their show posters will spruce up your space, which you will totally want to do post-film. For some late-night eats, check out Pub 5’s gravy fries and cocktails!

Jim Norton

The “Sidekick” Takes Center Stage (& Will Make You Laugh Till You Cry)

jim

WHAT IT IS:

Jim Norton is legit. A bestselling author, regular Tonight Show guest, on-air “sidekick” personality on Sirius’ Opie & Andy Show – the man does it all. And yes, all includes making you laugh so hard your might pee your pants. Go easy on the vodka tonics, killer. He’ll be doing standup this weekend at everyone’s favorite 8th Ave. comedy club, Zanies!

GOOD FOR:

A date with someone you’re REALLY comfortable with. There is a 99.9% chance the warm-up comic will make a slightly-to-extremely inappropriate joke about every single couple on the front row.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

If you’re feeling Mexican food, get your queso on at Chago’s Cantina. Bonus: the super-affordable margaritas will make you the perfect, giggly audience member.

Legendary Shack Shakers w/Aaron Lee Tasjan

The Weirdest, Coolest Frontman Since Freddie

shack

WHAT IT IS:

Yeah. Just TRY to predict what he’ll do next. This band formed in the 90s, mixes rockabilly, blues, and probably every other genre, and has one of the most electrifying live shows we’ve ever seen. Like, J.D. Wilkes would give Freddie Mercury and his theatrics a run for his money. Expect him to be shirtless, crowd surf, and possibly mime eating corn on the cob (this is a thing that has actually happened).

GOOD FOR:

Your rowdiest friends. Like, the ones who’s high school existence was spent solely in mosh pits.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

If you want the weirdness to continue, get late night beers/eats/coffee at Cafe Coco; it’s a surefire place to get weird and people-watch after hours, and you can walk from the venue!

Oliver!

A Midmorning Film For The Whole Family

oli

WHAT IT IS:

Wanna treat your kids to a Saturday morning movie? Belcourt has got you covered with the Oliver! reboot, a G-rated film that won’t have you covering the little ones eyes. Please sir, can we have some more?!

GOOD FOR:

When your kids got up too early for you to sleep in on a Saturday.

MAKE A DAY OF IT:

Bring some handwarmers and stand in line for the fluffy goodness that is the sweet potato pancakes from the famous Pancake Pantry across the street. Keep the kid-themed culture going by paying a visit to Bookman/Bookwoman in Hillsboro Village – the kids can pick out some new books! All within walking distance from the theatre. Parent of the year, right there!

V3Fights: Neal V. Johnson

The Top 2 Heavyweights Go Head To Head (Or, You Know…Foot)

spor

WHAT IT IS:

V3Fights bring professional fightin’ to local venues. Marathon Music Works is the perfect open space to watch the battle royale goes down: top two heavyweights Robert Neal and Tony Johnson are gonna FIGHT, y’all (and hopefully make up and go for a beer at the end – that’s how this works right?).

GOOD FOR:

The super competitive, extreme members of your fantasy football league. They really need to get out some aggression.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

Take the crew out to let loose and calm down at Paradise Park. The kitschy astro turf and bathtub of beers will release that fightin’ pressure! Get a Lyft for the night if you don’t feel like driving – parking might be a struggle.

The sauciest dance party this side of Puerto Rico. 404 Bar & Grill is hosting a hot and happenin’ dance lesson. There will also be bachata, chachacha, merengue and kizomba. Don’t be intimidated, papi – we know you’ve got the moves. Bring a partner or find one there!

GOOD FOR:

Impressing a first date. This isn’t your standard dinner and a movie! It can also be great to take your spouse and get the kids a sitter.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

If you don’t mind a crazy casual environment, the authentic Colombian food at Rico Ricky y El Gordito can satisfy your salsa-lovin’ cravings. If you want more of a romantic, upscale vibe, Boca Loca Cantina is the place to be! For a romantic end to the night, drive up to Love Circle and try out some of your salsa moves under the stars.
