-

Attention Nashville brunch lovers: all-day breakfast restaurant Ruby Sunshine announced that they will open in Hillsboro Village on Thursday, June 18. Located at 1800 21st Ave. S., Ruby Sunshine will offer New Orleans-style twists on brunch classics, including benedicts, pancakes and French Toast, as well as eye-opening cocktails. This will mark Ruby Sunshine’s second location in the Greater Nashville area, following their first location in Franklin’s Public Square last year.

“As a family-run Southern business, we’ve always loved Nashville’s strong heart for hospitality, which has been on display now more than ever as the community has come together to support each other through tough times,” said owner Jennifer Weishaupt. “There are so many fabulous restaurants and shops in the Hillsboro neighborhood, and we are honored to be opening our doors alongside them. We are excited for Ruby Sunshine to be a welcoming place for friends, families and visitors alike to gather safely, and look forward to bright days ahead.”

Nestled in the heart of the city, conveniently between Belmont and Vanderbilt Universities, the 5,300 square-foot restaurant offers indoor table & bar seating for 127 patrons and additional seating for 48 on the spacious outdoor patio, when at full capacity. With New Orleans-inspired design elements, the restaurant features Lizano Glass Haus stained windows, a Mardi Gras float-style papier-mâché Ruby Slipper and a forthcoming mural, which will be hand-painted by a local artist. Ruby Sunshine is the latest concept from Ruby Slipper Restaurant Group, the collective behind the acclaimed Big Easy-based eatery Ruby Slipper Café, and the Nashville restaurant marks the sixth location, behind Franklin, TN; Knoxville, TN; Birmingham, AL; Chattanooga, TN and Gatlinburg, TN, with Charlotte, NC to follow later this year.

In celebration of its opening, Ruby Sunshine is jumping in as an active member of the Hillsboro Village and larger Nashville community by hosting a special “Healthcare Heroes Happy Hour” preview event on Wednesday, June 17 to honor local frontline workers. All healthcare professionals with credentials are invited to Ruby Sunshine Hillsboro to enjoy complimentary drinks and bites, with a morning option from 7 to 10 a.m. and an evening option from 4 to 7 p.m. Those wanting to attend are encouraged to RSVP HERE

HEALTH & SAFETY FIRST AND FOREMOST

In the wake of COVID-19, Ruby Sunshine has implemented a number of precautions and procedures to ensure safety and sanitation in the restaurant’s dine-in spaces, including staff temperature screenings before each shift, as well as encouraging guests to maintain a minimum of six feet between parties while waiting for a table outside of the restaurant; guests can use Yelp’s Waitlist feature to receive an estimated wait time. Ruby Sunshine has also reconfigured the dining rooms across all locations to maintain social distancing requirements, in addition to introducing disposable and touch-less QR code-generated menus, touch-less payment options and enhanced cleaning and frequent sanitation protocols to help keep guests safe and healthy.

Additionally, Ruby Sunshine will be offering online ordering and takeout, as well as delivery through Uber Eats, DoorDash & Grubhub for diners looking to enjoy their meal at home.

THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME

Founded in post-Katrina New Orleans, Jennifer and Erich Weishaupt transformed a blighted corner store into a cozy restaurant, with the hope that it would help draw people back to the community – and that’s exactly what it did. In the eleven years since opening that neighborhood storefront, the number of restaurants have grown but the same powerful sense of homecoming is still present in each location. Both Ruby Slipper Cafe and Ruby Sunshine restaurants remain owned and operated by the original founders.

BREAKFAST STAPLES WITH A BIG EASY TWIST

The menu will echo that of Ruby Slipper Café and other Ruby Sunshine locations, which include creative New Orleans-inspired twists on Southern breakfast staples like BBQ Shrimp & Grits, Eggs Cochon Benedict and Bananas Foster Pain Perdu, as well as morning time cocktails like the Brandy Milk Punch, Morning Margarita, Mimosas and, of course, award-winning Bloody Marys. Ruby Sunshine incorporates fresh and local ingredients in its inspired menu whenever possible and is looking forward to partnering with local purveyors in Middle Tennessee.
