We Want Crazy (Awesome Country Vocals)

Hunter Hayes

hunterryman

WHO IT IS:

Hunter Hayes has a big voice and an even bigger following. The “I Want Crazy” singer has played the historic venue before, but he still has some tricks up his sleeve. Expect his recently released “Merry Christmas Baby” single to round out the set with some holiday spirit. “Nashville” stars Lennon & Maisy will be keepin’ it youthful (and soulful) as part of the bill. So much talent for three people who’s combined age is less than 50 years old. WHAT.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

Have a country-fried night with a meal out at downtown favorite Puckett’s. You can walk from the venue, just make sure you bundle up! If you are still in a party mood post-show and feel like hitting the town, check out Robert’s Western World or world-famous venue/bar The Stage for some honky-tonkin’.

You’ll Be Falling For The Christmas Beat

Andrew Ripp Christmas Show

rip

WHO IT IS:

A Nashville local with some major cred and songwriting skills, that’s who. Andrew Ripp runs in a pretty cool Nashville dude singer/songwriter crowd, so of course he loves him some Christmas. His song “Falling For The Beat” gets us every time, and when it comes to Christmas his cover of Joy To The World is a playlist mainstay. We can’t wait to hear him sing those holiday classics! Also, from far away he and Neil Patrick Harris look crazy alike. Fun fact.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

Grab an early dinner and take in the absolutely magical Christmas lights display at Opryland. The hotel is decked out for the season, and we know you’re going to be decked out in your concert outfit best – make sure you get some pictures in while you’re lookin’ fine!

Former Underoath Frontman Is Ready To ROCK

Sleepwave

SLEP

WHO IT IS:

Anyone who ever walked in to Hot Topic or got on Myspace knows exactly who Underoath is. The band dominated Christian rock charts for the aughts (that’s what we all collectively decided to call the 2000’s, right?), and the frontman has a brand new project that is KILLER. Come see Spencer Chamberlain’s new passion project and rock out to equally awesome acts Foreign War, We Are The Finale, and What We Do In Secret. This is your chance to break out that studded belt again.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

Treat yourself to brand-new Hillsboro Village restaurant, Lucky Belly. The sushi and burgers joint has a quirky twist – the menu and decor are based on the playfulness of youth culture in Japan. Relive your youth with this restaurant-show combo!

Rock & Roll All Night For A Cause

Merry Effin’ KISSmas: An Evening With Blonder Than Hell

ki

WHO IT IS:

They’re gonna rock and roll all night and party EVERY day. Especially Friday night! A KISS cover band with all that reckless/kickass Gene Simmons spirit, Blonder Than Hell is making all your KISS fan Christmas wishes come true. It’s going to get rowdy! Bring a toy or a canned food item to the door – they’ll be taking donations in exchange for just a $5 cover.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

Get some cheap and delicious Mexican food just a short drive away at La Hacienda on Nolensville Pike. And in case you missed it, that is where the Commander In Chief grabbed lunch when he was in Nashville last week. His name is Barack Obama, and he approves this queso.

Hallelujah For What The Symphony Bringeth

Handel’s Messiah

sch

WHO IT IS:

The best symphony players in the world (okay, maybe we are a bit biased, but still). Following the annual tradition, the gorgeous Schermerhorn Symphony Center is hosting performances of Handel’s Messiah through the weekend. Sure, you may be more into weird indie pop, but you haven’t lived until you’ve seen a live orchestra perform one of the greatest classical works ever created. 10 to 1 odds you are going to cry a little.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

It might not harken ALL the way back to Handel’s time (the famous composer died 17 years before the good ol’ US of A gained independence), but if you want to throw it way back, do a fancy dinner at The Standard! The wedding location of Andrew Jackson (you may have heard of him) has gas lamps and steak and that 18th century charm. It’s also a feasible walk from the Schermerhorn!

The Prince Of Pop Brings Sexy Back To Nashville

Justin Timberlake

bri

WHO IT IS:

Justin Timberlake, how do we love thee? Let us count the ways. You are the reigning prince of pop. You are bringing sexy back to Nashville after you already graced us with your presence earlier this year. You rocked some frosted curls and ribbed turtlenecks in the late 90s like a total boss. The list goes on. Head to Bridgestone Arena to witness what has been named the best live show of 2014. Get ready to lose it.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

If you’re hoping to catch a glimpse of JT, we know he loves him some southern eats. Last time the 20/20 tour came through town, he dined at Puckett’s Grocery (one of our faves) in Leiper’s Fork. If you want to make a whole day of it, check out our (imaginary) Nashville itinerary for a Timberlake visit.

Christmas Tunes And All That Jazz

Joseph Wooten’s Annual Christmas Show

JOSP

WHO IT IS:

All of the Wooten Brothers are local and national treasures – Joseph Wooten is no exception. The 3 time Grammy nominee has been the keyboardist for The Steve Miller Band since 1993, and he has piano chops like you would not believe. Are you a bigger fan of Coltrane Christmas than a twee indie cover of Sleigh Bells? This is your show, cool cat.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

Nothing goes with a jazz show quite like an Old Fashioned. Pre-game your show at Pinewood Social, where there are delicious eats, drinks, coffee, and even vintage bowling! Bonus points if you class it up for this show and end up throwing a strike whilst wearing a stylish bowler hat. Snazzy!

A Modern-Day Blues Goddess

Shemekia Copeland

sh

WHO IT IS:

Shemekia Copeland can SANG. This blues singer has quite the prestigious rap sheet: opened for the Rolling Stones, headlined the Chicago Blues Festival, shared the stage with Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Mick Jagger, and Eric Clapton, and has performed at the White House. Yeah. She’s kind of a big deal. She’ll be playing the tambourine (and the vocal chords) at City Winery, and you don’t want to miss it!

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

The show is on the earlier side. When you inevitably get your second wind post-show, we suggest you go kick up your heels at BB Kings downtown. There are old men in zoot suits, middle aged women drinking alcohol out of fishbowls, and most importantly LOTS of dancing. Bring your comfy shoes (or your hot shoes – life is short).

They Think They’ll Come To Nashville

Augustana

au

WHO IT IS;

We’ve all been there. Windows down, behind the wheel, and belting out “I think I’ll go to Boston, I think I’ll start a new life” at the top of our lungs. There’s more to Augustana than their monstrous hit “Boston” – the band has some serious longevity! Much of that has to do with their top-notch live show. The track “Youth Is Wasted On The Young” off their 2014 record “Life Imitates Life” will have you introspectively head-bobbin’. All the feels, y’all.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

Cannery Ballroom is a cool venue surrounded by cool places to grab a drink and a bite to eat. The two-story burgers, beer, and bourbon spot Pour House has great specials. You’ll be super close to the venue, so if you have one too many at the start, you can walk (and then dance it out at the show)!

A Star-Studded Christmas Party From The Original “Idol”

Miracle On Broadway With Kelly Clarkson

KEL

WHO IT IS:

The original gal to knock Simon Cowell off of his grumpy British feet, Kelly Clarkson has come a long way since her days on American Idol. Now a Nashville resident who is related to Reba (THE DREAM), Clarkson’s down-home elegance, powerhouse vocals, and famous friends are rounding out the Christmas concert lineup of your dreams. Her special guests include Reba (duh), Trisha Yearwood, Garth Brooks, Ronnie Dunn, Kacey Musgraves, Paramore’s Hayley Williams, Charles Esten, Meghan Trainor and more. It’s like CMA Country Christmas take two without all the cameras! Proceeds go to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, Monroe Harding Children’s Home, Second Harvest Food Bank, and Thistle Farms. We love it!

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

After you get inspired by the unique takes on Christmas carols from your favorite stars, sing your own tune! Head to Santa’s Pub (which also happens to be a celebrity favorite) for a cash only beer bar, karaoke, and all the Christmas cheer that can fit into a double-wide trailer.
