-

If you aren’t kicking back with a brew this week, you better Weizen up.

It’s National Beer Day, folks, and we’re feeling a Tuesday night happy hour. Need help deciding what to sip on when you get there? These Nashvillians have earned their right to give you some beer advice (and maybe tell a drinking story or two). Bottoms up!

FAVORITE LOCAL BEER:

There are so many great local beers in Nashville, it’s hard to choose a favorite. Randy’s IPA is my one true love, but if I had to cheat, it’d would be with Mayday’s Evil Octopus, Blackstone’s Porter, TN Brew Works Basil Ryeman, Jackalope’s Rompo, Yazoo’s Hop Project or Black Abbey’s Potus (if you’re gonna stray, make it count).

FAVORITE PLACE TO DRINK IN NASHVILLE:

Mayday’s Taproom or a pub crawl through the Brewery District from Yazoo to Jackalope to TN Brew Works to Czann’s.

WHERE TO GO WHEN YOU’VE HAD A FEW:

After that, I highly recommend cutting off your jeans to an offensively short level(pockets showing), donning a mullet wig and heading to Broadway for some grinding and ballyhoo.  Make sure you end up at Paradise Park for late night Tots.

FAVORITE LOCAL BEER:

I would have to say Yazoo Onward Stout!

FAVORITE PLACE TO DRINK IN NASHVILLE:

Hops & Crafts.

AWKWARD BEER STORY:

Once I was pouring some beer for a fancy business girl when I was a tour guide at Yazoo and she turned around to talk to someone. Her glass moved right as I was pouring it for her. I poured a little beer on her shoe! I felt terrible, and she was quite unhappy about it!

FAVORITE LOCAL BEER:

If I’m not sipping a pint of Randy’s IPA from Jubilee (a solid IPA with part of the proceeds going to benefit The Oasis Center), I’m a big fan of almost anything Calfkiller puts out. They’re without a doubt the biggest experimenters of the Nashville craft beer scene and no two batches are the same (which some aficionados will hate). I’m especially a fan of their Trail Ale, which is basically like a granola bar and a Pale Ale had an amazing flavor-explosion baby.

FAVORITE PLACE TO DRINK IN NASHVILLE:

Without a doubt Village Pub in Riverside Village on the eastside. It’s a bit more “found out” nowadays but it has always maintained that neighborhood pub feel. No frills – just good brews and good food. You can’t beat it.

POST-DRINKING SUGGESTIONS:

After drinking beer? Sleeping? Hah! I love going to the Belcourt for a show. You can find me there most weekends (and sometimes during the week) catching the latest indie flick. Bonus: they’ve got several local craft brews on tap. A good show + good beers? You can’t beat that.

FAVORITE LOCAL BEER:

My favorite right now is our single barrel Four Roses Bourbon barrel-aged Blackstone Porter with coffee.  Our adjacent spirits store selected a single barrel from the the distillery several months ago to sell.  Not letting our newly emptied barrel go to waste, we reached out to our friends at Blackstone to put this barrel back into commission.  After the porter aged several months we went to the brewery to blend and taste the beer.  We’ve done several iterations; some with coffee and some without.  We even did a holiday spice blend that will be on tap next week before Christmas.  Tis the season for bourbon barrel-aged beers!

FAVORITE PLACE TO DRINK IN NASHVILLE:

When I’m not sampling the prospective beers to make it to our tap wall or cooler, I’d likely hit up one of Nashville’s local breweries.  It’s great to experience the varying personalities of the people involved and how that translates to the beers being brewed.  I can’t pick a favorite. That’d be like picking your favorite child! Can I list them all?

FUN NASHVILLE DRINKING EXPERIENCE:

The Science of Beer last year.  The chance to play around like a kid while drinking big kid drinks and learn a few things in the process is not a bad thing.
