10 Things To Do In Nashville This Weekend

-

Almost quittin’ time, y’all!

We don’t know about you, but we’reĀ feelin’ 22 ready for the weekend. This polar freezeĀ (at least that’s the dramatic name we’ve given the 20 degree temperature drop) may haveĀ us bundled up, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t ready to party. Send out that group text and rally the troops…here are 10 things you’ll wannado this weekend!

Party With A Purpose

The Charitable Rager

ro

WHAT IT IS:

Party With A Purpose gives you an extra special reason to rock out this Friday. The second annual event is bringing us drinkin’, dancin’, and eatin’ at Rocketown, all in partnership with Best Buddies. They’ll celebrate the philanthropic efforts of the Champion Of The Year nominees (what a title!) and have throwback tunes from 80s cover band Rubik’s Groove. Party on, Wayne.

GOOD FOR:

Your big group of friends – especially the ones that had a hard week at work (or get super bummed when it gets dark early). Instant pick-me-up!

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

Don’t want the party to end?Ā Hit up Lower Broad (specifically Robert’sĀ for a late night bologna sandwich) to keep it going. The downtown strip may be a bit of a tourist trap, but that’s because it’s awesome.

Thanksgiving Pie Perfection

A Dessert Enthusiast’s Dream

cul

WHAT IT IS:

Frankly, probably the best thing that has ever happened on planet Earth (we really love pie). You eat pie while you learn to MAKE pie, and the apple cider will be a’flowin. Bring your apron and get ready to take home a mini-cookbook filled with holiday recipes!

GOOD FOR:

You and your gal pal (not that we are counting the bros out of this one) who is stressing about cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the in-laws this year.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

Enjoy some post pie-making Sazeracs at nearby Germantown spot City House. Twinkly lights and a cozy vibe will keep you warm on this cold weekend night!

Big K.R.I.T.

Get Down With A Def Jam Rapper

bigk

WHAT IT IS:

Big K.R.I.T. has been around 4eva (well, more like 2005, but his Return Of 4eva record is pretty timeless). The Mississippi-bred rapper hangs with Ludacris, Wiz, Chamillionaire, Bun B, and more. If you’re not convinced to go to the Anthem show yet, we’ll just leave this here: his new album is called Cadillactica.

GOOD FOR:

Your friend who always complains that there’s no good hip hop/proper clubs in Nashville. This will change their mind!

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

You’re going to load up on carbs before you dance your face off. Grab a burger at The Pharmacy (just be ready for a wait if you don’t make reservations) before the show! Pro tip: Order everything with a side of beer gravy.

Dumb & Dumber

Get A Dumb Refresher Before You See The Sequel

dum

WHAT IT IS:

WE LIKE IT A LOT. This event feels like (Lloyd) Christmas came early. Fall back in love with the magic of the super dumb, super hilarious 90s comedy classic at Belcourt before you see the long-awaited sequel, in theaters this weekend. This is a midnight movie, so expect it to get delightfully rowdy. You WILL hear some dude say “We landed on the moon!”

GOOD FOR:

When you’re in a rowdy mood but don’t feel like elbowing your way through a crowded bar. This place is chaotically fun, but in a controlled way.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

Get your fried chicken and beer on at McDougal’s across the street. It will be dark in the theatre, so no one will notice your top button isn’t buttoned, champ.

Meet Your Best Friend Day

Come Home From The Zoo With A Puppy

zo

WHAT IT IS:

Puppies. Kittens. Cuteness overload. The Nashville Zoo is hosting the 5th annual pet adoption extravaganza. The Giraffe parking lot will be the most precious playpen you have ever seen. Get ready to meet your forever BFF!

GOOD FOR:

The whole family, as long as you’re all in agreement that you actually want a pet. Once you get there, you won’t be able to resist the literal puppy dog eyes.

MAKE A DAY OF IT:

If you want to get up with the sun for a pancake breakfast, the kids will LOVE Pfunky Griddle. You pick your toppings and flip your own flapjacks at the table. So much fun!

Lightning 100 Presents Jenny Lewis

See Indie Pop Royalty In The Flesh

indi

WHAT IT IS:

The reigning queen of indie pop/rock is playing Marathon Music Works in a music event brought to us by Lightning 100, and we are so pumped. From Rilo Kiley to indie duos to her awesome new solo album, Lewis reigns supreme when it comes to deceptively upbeat melodies and cutting lyrics. Come see her sing about cheating and punching through drywall (yeah, we’ve been listening to “She’s Not Me” on repeat).

GOOD FOR:

The hippest date ever.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

The Gulch is a stone’s throw away, so hit up Barista Parlor for coffee and Bar Louie for post show drinks/late night eats.

Local Fest At The Mansion

Ain’t No Party Like An East Side Party

fest

WHAT IT IS:

A killer East side party with pretty much everything you could ask for. First of all, you’re in a ballin’ mansion. There will be live music fromĀ Shane Piasecki, Marina Orchestra, Trenton, k.s. Rhoads, Jace Everett, and The Get Togethers, craft brews, a ticketed pop up dinner from the best local chefs around, craft brews, food trucks, and artisan vendors. So Nashville, y’all.

GOOD FOR:

The whole neighborhood. Invite those neighbors you have a couples crush on – they could become your go-to double date friends. This is also a great place to take visitors who want to experience a truly local scene!

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:

Eh, this is kind of a one-stop shop for all your party needs. Wanna get a cozy fall/winter outfit for this party? Hit up The Hip Zipper for some East Nashville-approved vintage duds.

Our Place In Space

For TheĀ Curious, Science-Lovin’ Child (Or Your Inner Child)

plan

WHAT IT IS:

Yeah, you could take your kid to see the possibly-too-intense-for-children “Interstellar” (the new Matthew McConaughey movie with a Neil Degrasse-Tyson seal of approval). They’ll probably learn more from Adventure Science Center’s family-friendly program. Crossword puzzles, constellations, and fun ways to learn about the Milky Way – it’s just what your little Einstein needs!

GOOD FOR:

Your kids! It will get their energy up and runnin’Ā early so you all can have a chill night.

MAKE A DAY OF IT:

Bundle up and take the kids to the park! Sevier Park in 12 South is nearby, and if you stay late enough you can even do some star-gazing to put that scientific knowledge into practice. Get coffee at Frothy Monkey to stay warm!

Rick Bragg At Parnassus Books

Hear About The Life Of Jerry Lee Lewis

par

WHAT IT IS:

Another awesome author event hosted by Parnassus Books (one of the top bookstores in the country if you ask us…and CNN), this one is gonna be rockin’. Bestselling author Rick Bragg is known for his biography skills and trilogy on the lives of American southerners. Who better to pen the Jerry Lee Lewis biography? Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!

GOOD FOR:

Your music history buffs – think any Belmont professor.

MAKE A DAY OF IT:

Parnassus is in the Green Hills area, so you can keep that cultural theme going with a bite to eat at Jonathan’s Grille and a movie. If you’re still in that biography-of-a-genius mood, we recommend The Theory Of Everything. Eddie Redmayne as Stephen Hawking? Just give the guy the Oscar.

Christmas Village

It’s Almost The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

chris

WHAT IT IS:

Pure magic. Head to TN State Fairgrounds for over 265 holiday vendors bringin’ us the best of Christmas cheer; from ornaments to toys to peppermint bark, your heart is going to grow three sizes that day. Best part? It benefitsĀ Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center!

GOOD FOR:

Cozy couples, festive families, bundled up bros – this thing is all inclusive, y’all.

MAKE A DAY OF IT:

Go get a post-shopping seasonal beverage at Pinewood Social to warm you up (take a stab at vintage bowling if you need to get that blood pumping)! If it’s non-alcoholic, you can even take it to go for a cold weather walk on the Pedestrian Bridge. Killer view of those famous Nashville sunsets!

Get cozy, Nashville, and don’t let the cold weather put you on house arrest. It’s going to be a great weekend! Don’t see anything that strikes your fancy? We’ve got tons of stuff for you to browse in Wannado. From live music to happy hours to pie classes, we’ve got you covered.
