Whether you embody our city’s artistic vibe by writing emotional country songs or making artisan handsoap, we know Music City appreciates all kinds of art – specifically street art. But how do you know where to find all these little aesthetic gems? We thought we’d shine a light on some of the coolest murals in the 615. Get those instagram filters ready, y’all.

Import Flowers

WHERE:

Right on Murphy Road off of West End as you hit Sylvan Park on the side of the old Import Flowers building!

YOU SHOULD KNOW:

Mark Palen, a Nashville railroad executive turned contemporary artist who spends most of his time in Switzerland, is the guy behind this sunny little mural. He is a majorly talented guy who is quite a character, and when he was in Nashville he painted this in the expanding Sylvan Park neighborhood. And you know those articles you see on Facebook probably twice a day about hidden/slightly adult subliminal messages in beloved Disney films? This mural is kind of like that. Look closely on the right side (only part of it is in the above picture) and you can see the spaces between the flowers spell out a three letter word that starts with “s” (you can see that in the above photo) and ends with “ex”. He’s sly, that Palen.

Road To The Skyline

WHERE:

On that downtown strip! You can find this one on the side of Legends Corner.

YOU SHOULD KNOW:

This aspirational piece of art puts us on the road to Music City, and it draws lots of out-of-towners and locals alike (particularly for engagement photos). It’s survived some of the downtown renovations that left other murals (like local favorite “Greetings From Nashville”) to be painted over. If you want to find some A+ wall art nearby, it’s a stone’s throw away at The Stage – the venue is decked out with paintings of old school country legends like Waylon Jennings. So many photo opps to be had!

WHERE:

On the East Side at Center 615’s building.

YOU SHOULD KNOW:

This bright pop of color and local love is set to be a prominent landmark in the ultra-hip East Nashville hood. Created by Adrien of DCXV Industries, the mural is appropriately named “Stay Tuned”. Considering it’s spot on the side of an innovative space in the heart of an up-and-coming neighborhood, we couldn’t imagine a better name for it! You just know the fashion-forward hipsters are gonna come out in droves to get that perfect shot. Join them. This is a ‘grammer’s dream.

 Johnny Cash Mural

WHERE:

Corner of Molloy and 4th Ave. downtown!

YOU SHOULD KNOW:

This quintessential street art documents our city’s love affair with The Man In Black, Johnny Cash. Brought to us by Nashville’s most prolific graffiti artistes Bryan Deese and Audie Adams, longtime Nashvillians who have had a front row seat to all the changes to the city’s landscape over the years. They are fiercely loyal to Music City and use their talents for its beautification – we love it! A photo here pairs perfectly with a trip to the nearby Cash Museum. This mural was originally going to be a part of a 4 part series with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, & Kris Kristofferson (the Highwaymen supergroup, y’all). We’ll take whatever country music renegades we can get!

I Believe In Nashville

WHERE:

There are a couple of locations – Marathon Music Works, Riverside Village on the side of Mitchell Deli, & 12 South right next to Edley’s.

YOU SHOULD KNOW:

Another awesome definitive work of Nashville art from DCXV Industries! 12 South is the original location, and the mural is the mastermind of Adrien Saporiti. Adrien was raised in the 615. He saw the need for Nashville apparel that was a little more local than some of the “whiskey makes me frisky” memorabilia you can find on honky tonk lane. With his graphic design skills and business mind, he created the “I Believe In Nashville” design, which has expanded to murals, t-shirts, iPhone cases, and a bunch of other awesome local designs. Check them out! And just know, you become a true Nashvillian when you wistfully post a photo of you eating a popsicle or something in front of this landmark. Then poof! – you’re in.
